The building of pavilion is in the style of Ming Dynasty and its original name was Fuyi Pavilion. It was changed to be teahouse in the period of Xianfeng Emperor as“Ye Shi Pavilion”, which was the earliest teahouse in Shanghai. For it locates on the Jiuqu Bridge in the center of lotus pond in Yuyuan Garden, it was named as“Mid-Lake Pavilion”.
